Iran’s under-23 national futsal team, also known as Iran U-23 or Iran Olympic Team, came in first at the 2023 Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Futsal Cup after beating Tajikistan in the finale of the major regional tournament.
On Sunday, the young Iranian sportsmen defeated the hosts with a sole goal scored by Ali Akrami in the last fixture of the competition.
The Persians registered their fourth title in the tournament with the win.
Afghanistan finished in second place.
Iran lost to Turkmenistan 2-1 in its opening match, before making a comeback and defeating Kyrgyzstan 1-0, Afghanistan 5-1, and Uzbekistan 5-0 in its following matches.
The tournament was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, from July 23 to 30.
Six teams, namely Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan participated in the tournament.
The competition was a round-robin system in one round, where each team played with all the other five.
The winning team was determined by the number of points scored.
