Tajik President Emomali Rahmon pays state to Qatar

On Sunday January 21, President Emomali Rahmon started his state visit to the State of Qatar, according to the Tajik president’s official website. 

Presidential aides on international ties and economic issues, foreign minister, finance minister, agriculture minister, the minister of economic development and trade, the minister of industry and new technologies, the minister of labor, migration and employment of the population, the minister of culture, heads of the state committee on investment and state-owned property management, the emergencies committee, the national bank and some other high-ranking state officials are accompanying the president on his state visit to Qatar.  

At Doha International Airport, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was received with special respect and sincerity by the State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Dr. Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Khulayfi and other officials.

Emomali Rahmon yesterday met with the Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of the State of Qatar, Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim.

The parties reportedly discussed the issues of expanding the inter-parliamentary relations of the two countries and assessed the role of parliaments and inter-parliamentary friendship groups in creating the legal basis for the inter-state relations of the two countries in various areas.

Other aspects of cooperation between the states, the expansion of economic and trade relations between the two countries, the attraction of capital and the participation of state and private companies of Qatar in the expansion of cooperation between the two countries were also discussed.

On the same day, as part of his state visit to the State of Qatar, Emomali Rahmon, met with the Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Faisal Holding Company, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani.

They reportedly discussed issues related to trade and economic cooperation and investment between the two countries.

It was noted that the holding of commercial and economic forums and the establishment of the Joint Economic and Investment Fund is an important factor in the expansion of the bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the utilization of great opportunities and capacities of Tajikistan in the priority areas of industry, extraction and processing of minerals, transit roads and the tourism sector.

On January 21, Emomali Rahmon also met with the Chief of Investments of Qatar Diar Company Ahmed Mohamed Al Tayeb.

During the meeting, the implementation of the Diar Dushanbe project and construction of a number of important facilities in Dushanbe were discussed.

On the same day, Emomali Rahmon also met with the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development Khalifa Jassim Al-Kuwari.

The parties reportedly exchanged views on the great hydropower potential of Tajikistan and how to benefit from these benefits for the good of both countries.

It was emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan adopted the “Green Economy Development Strategy for 2023-2037” in order to develop the green economy. Tajikistan has the possibility to provide 100% with “green energy”.

Taking into account the great resources and opportunities of the hydropower industry, it was suggested that the Qatari side contribute to the implementation of important projects in the field for the benefit of both countries.

On January 21, Emomali Rahmon also met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nebras Power Company Mohammed Nasser Al-Hajri.

It was emphasized that Tajikistan has a great potential for renewable energy sources. In order to develop the “green economy”, the Government of the country adopted the “Green Economy Development Strategy for 2023-2037”.

In Tajikistan, practical measures are continuously taken to produce electricity from other renewable sources, such as solar and wind sources.

The State of Qatar was invited to study the possibility of investing in these areas and make a significant contribution to the practical implementation of priority projects for the benefit of both sides and to the expansion of cooperation between the countries.

On the same day, Emomali Rahmon met with the Chief of Investments at Qatar Investment Authority Sheikh Faisal Bin Thani Al Thani.

During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed issues of further development and expansion of relations in the fields of industry and energy.

It was emphasized that there are great opportunities in attracting the Qatari capital to Tajikistan. Therefore, it was proposed that the Qatari side participate in the implementation of some priority projects for the benefit of both sides.

They also discussed the issues of benefiting from the great transit potential of Tajikistan in the Eurasian region, renewable energy of Tajikistan, extraction and processing of minerals were discussed.

Recall, Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda met with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, who is also serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on September 28 last year. 

The press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan says asked Qatar’s Prime Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Qatar Investment Authority, to assist in the implementation of the country’s priority projects, especially in financing the construction of the Roghun hydropower plant.

The Tajik minister also included the projects on construction of international airport in Danghara, modernization of Tajik aluminum smelter, completion of the construction of Diar Dushanbe development, construction of high-rise buildings in Dushanbe and development of the tourism infrastructure in Dushanbe as priority projects that require financial support for implementation, the ministry’s press center noted.    

The parties reportedly also discussed issues related to launching direct air service between Dushanbe and Doha and reception by Qatar of 4,000 Tajik labor migrants.  

According to the ministry’s press center, all these proposals were accepted by the Qatari side.
