Qatar Foreign Minister Mutlaq Bin Majed Al-Qahtani, an envoy, visited the Afghan capital on Sunday and met with the acting foreign minister of the Taliban administration, Reuters reported, citing an Afghan Foreign Ministry statement.

The visit came after Afghan authorities imposed restrictions on women’s education and the work of NGOs, which Qatar called “deeply disturbing.”

Mutlaq Bin Majed Al-Qahtani took part in meetings with Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki in Kabul, Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said.

“The two sides discussed political coordination, the strength of relations and humanitarian aid,” Balkhi said.

No foreign country has officially recognized the Taliban government, although both China and Pakistan sent their foreign ministers to Kabul last year, and the UN deputy special representative recently visited the country to discuss women’s rights and aid.
