Named the Preliminary Date of the Holiday of Ramadan


The Ulema Council of the Islamic Center of Tajikistan reported that according to preliminary data, the month of Ramadan this year will last 29 days. It usually lasts 30 days.

“And, most likely, the Ramadan holiday will be celebrated on Friday, April 21,” – reports the newspaper “Religion and Society” – the official publication of the Committee of Religion.

According to the report, “at the beginning of next week a regular meeting of the Ulema Council will be held and the exact day of the celebration will be announced.”

This year, the month of Ramadan in Tajikistan began on March 23. In accordance with the decision of the Ulema Council, this year the amount of “zakot” (mandatory annual tax in favor of the poor) is set at 800 somoni and it should be given by those Muslims who have excess funds of at least 32 thousand somoni.

Also, the Ulema Council set the amount of fitr (alms during the holy fast) in the current year in the amount of 7 somoni. A person who is unable to fast this month must donate 420 somoni (14 somoni for each day of the month of Ramadan).
